Have you ever wondered if your hair, skin and makeup products could be making you sick? I actually never thought about it until I had some health issues and then my eyes were opened.
As you continue to follow my blog posts I will be sharing my experiences and maybe lead you to want to know more too. We cannot change everything at once (it is too overwhelming) but we can do small changes that will stick and progress from there.
The next few blog posts, I will talk about ingredients to hopefully help you make healthier hair and skin care choices. I will also highlight a Surface product to give you a better understanding of how amazing this organic line really is and how it benefits you.
The first ingredient I want to introduce you to is- Paraben.
What is a paraben? It is used in foods and pharmaceuticals as a preservative. That seems harmless right? Studies have shown though, that parabens can mimic the activity of the hormone estrogen in the body’s cells. This estrogenic activity is associated with certain forms of breast cancer and have been present in breast tumors. As you know I am not a doctor but this was a HUGE awakening for me. Cancer seems to be more prevalent in our world today and I want to know why. Could parabens be disrupting our hormones? You can explore that more in your own research. For me, after doing more reading, I decided I would not be putting anything on me or in me that has parabens in it. (Also seen as methylparaben or propylparaben on ingredient labels.)
What does Surface use for a preservative that will not disrupt our hormones?
Rose Ether. While not without some controversy too, it is used in more natural products. For me, it beats parabens hands down. I am always hopeful we will continue to find safe ingredients that respect our health without compromising the results.
