4 Tips to Care for Skin and Hair in the Winter

As I am writing this, I am looking at fresh snow on Oct 29th in Iowa! Maybe this post should have come out sooner but never fear I will help you care for your dry hair and skin this winter. I feel you can do some things naturally but if you use products please use ones that respect your health. I will showcase some below!

1. Moisturize A LOT

As the humidity drops outside and inside this will affect your hair and skin. So let’s start with the hair first. What can you use if you feel your hair is lacking luster? Surface Bassu Shampoo and Conditioner (on Sale Now!) contains the key ingredients of organic babassu seed oil and moringa to provide moisture, plus repair and soothe dry hair without weighing down your locks! The NEW kids on the block is the Surface Bassu Moisture Mist with moringa( read more about moringa below)! This is perfect for everyone because it is the BEST leave in detangler that will not be too heavy for even the finest of hair but it delivers moisture while protecting our hair

Do you have course or thick hair that may need more of a deep moisturizer?

I have a solution with Surface Bassu Masque! This is life for dry hair, and you can use it TWO ways! Personally, I would shampoo, condition , then towel dry my hair before applying a nickel size of the Bassu Masque throughout my strands. I would then apply Surface Bassu Oil, liquid gold in my book, over the top before my styling products and DRY it in. Yes, you can dry the Surface Bassu Masque in with no worries of it feeling heavy. What you will get is hair that is restored to its natural moisture level!. Your second option is to shampoo and use the Surface Bassu Masque as a conditioner, leave on for a few minutes and then rinse.

Do you have curly hair that needs extra moisture?

If you have curly hair, you must try Surface Curls! You will not be disappointed!

What about your skin?

Using the combo of the Surface Char Skin Relief Cream and Surface Bassu Oil is amazing! The activated charcoal will attract impurities while the sandal tree extract provides a speedy delivery of D-Biotin, Moringa and Babassu Oil. I personally put a dime size of the skin relief cream in my hand, two drops of the Surface Bassu oil, rub together and I have the extra benefit of penetration into my skin because of the Bassu Oil!! Excellent combo but you can use each on their own too!!!

2. Don’t Turn Up the Hot Water

What??? I know it’s tempting, and it feels so good, but the hot water actually dehydrates your skin and hair. I always recommend turning the temperature down for your hair and if you must turn it up a little for your skin then that will be your call. Tip one above will help you if you tend to turn the temperature up a little to much.

3. Exfoliate Naturally

I personally use Epson salt on my skin while I am in the bath, especially for my legs and arms, to help scrub away the dry dead cells. This helps accelerate the process and prevent your skin from looking dull. In the cooler months I tend to do this twice a week. For more of a soothing natural solution you could use oatmeal and blend with milk and honey. I know it sounds like something you may want to eat but it’s great for the face, rinse off after 10 mins. Then you can follow up with the Bassu Oil, the Char Skin Relief Cream together or alone. Amazing!!

4. Use a Humidifier

The moisture level in our homes can be very low when the heat is on. This is another solution that will help your skin and hair! We have a bigger unit that helps the main floor but individual units, especially in the bedrooms at night, will help keep your skin and hair moist as well as keep your sinus passages clear. I add essential oils to help fight off germs!

We can have awesome hair and skin if we just nourish them during the cooler season.

Follow these hot tips and you can say goodbye to itching, dry skin and lifeless hair this winter!!
